U.S. Supreme Court Oral Argument: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. v. Dukes

Washington, DC
Tuesday, March 29, 2011

The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Wal-Mart versus Dukes, a gender discrimination case against Wal-Mart over pay and promotions for as many as 1.5 million current and former women employees.

The issue before the Court is whether the female plaintiffs have enough in common to qualify for a class-action lawsuit. If the lawsuit is allowed to proceed, it will be the largest class-action suit in history and could potentially cost Wal-Mart billions.
