UVA - Miller Center of Public Affairs Panel on the Impact of Citizens United v. FEC

Washington, DC
Monday, October 18, 2010

The University of Virginia Miller Center hosted a panel discussion on the impact of the recent Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United versus the Federal Election Commission. Law professors and political scholars analyzed the influence of campaign finance money by corporations as well as the disclosure of donor information. Speakers also focused on campaign finance reform looking at small donor money and political mobilization. The 5-4 Supreme Court ruling from January eliminated restrictions on campaign spending by outside groups. Congressional Democrats tried to pass a bill in response that would have required greater disclosure for campaign spending, but the measure failed to pass the Senate.
