Vice President Travels to Iowa for Speech on Manufacturing

Washington, DC
Thursday, March 1, 2012

Vice President Joe Biden discusses the President's plan for increasing manufacturing jobs in a speech at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

The plan includes tax incentives and other programs to encourage manufacturers to create new jobs and move jobs back to the U.S. from overseas.  It also proposes increased educational opportunities to generate skilled manufacturing workers to fill those new jobs. The Washington Post reported that a survey of manufacturers found that there are already as many as 600,000 openings for skilled workers that are going unfilled due to a lack of qualified applicants.

President Obama visited Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in January for an event that also focused on manufacturing and the economy.
