W.H. Economic Adviser Discusses State of the Economy

Washington, DC
Monday, October 31, 2011

Gene Sperling, the Director of the National Economic Council and an adviser to President Obama, spoke at an event today hosted by the Economic Club of Washington, DC.

In his remarks, Sperling stated that to get the economy on the right track, "we need a bold immediate jobs plan and a balanced plan for long term fiscal discipline."

Mr. Sperling held the same job during the Clinton Administration, and was Hillary Clinton's chief economic adviser during her presidential campaign.

He also discussed the President's plans to lower tax rates, how to help homeowners who are "underwater" on their mortgages, as well as the recent news that the economy had grown 2.5%  percent in the third quarter of this year.
