Washington Journal Looks at Battleground Virginia

Washington, DC
Thursday, November 1, 2012

The Washington Journal continued its ten-day, ten-state look at battleground states by taking a closer look at Virginia, with its 13 electoral votes.

President Obama won Virginia in 2008, the first Democrat to do so since Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Recent polls show Mitt Romney leading by less than a percentage point in Virginia, with most polls showing a statistical tie. Virginia also has a hotly contested Senatorial race this year between Former Governor Tim Kaine (D) and Former Senator George Allen (R) for the seat that Sen. Allen lost in 2006 to retiring Sen. James Webb (D).

Over the course of the battleground states series, we will hear from top political reporters and analysts in top swing states and also talk to key partisans on both sides of the aisle. Among the issues we’ll explore: the political and economic landscape, updates on the presidential race and key Congressional contests, key issues impacting the state, what to watch for on election night and prospects for post-election litigation.
