Phoner: Andrew Taylor, Associated Press' Congressional Correspondent, discusses the freshest news on the budget,CR, and potential government shutdown.

The ongoing congressional budget negotiations, and the possibility of a government shutdown by midnight Friday if Congress does not reach an agreement on the current short-term spending bill that funds the federal government though September 30. Freshman Rep. Reid Ribble (R-WI), Budget Committee Member, voted for the previous two short-term spending extensions earlier this year.

As tonight’s midnight deadline fast approaches, Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY), Budget Committee Member, discusses his view on the budget talks, what he’s willing to compromise on to keep the government running, and what he sees as far as a deal being worked out.

Tom Shoop, Government Executive Magazine, Editor in Chief, takes a look at what to expect should the government shutdown happen.  Mr. Shoop also discusses what has happened with past shutdowns and the process of a shutdown.
