Topic: Efforts to pass legislation that prohibits discrimination in hiring against the unemployed. The New York City Council passed a bill last month which forbids employers from basing hiring decisions on applicants’ unemployment status, and from posting job advertisements that require applicants to be employed. Pres. Obama has introduced similar federal legislation, as have congressional Democrats.
