Washington Journal for Monday, September 17

Washington, DC

Jonathan Allen, Politico, Senior Washington Correspondent

Topic: Guest will discuss what’s left on the Congressional agenda as both chambers get ready to recess at the end of the week until after the November election – and how each party is positioning itself as the fall campaign kicks into high gear.

Bob Woodward, Washington Post, Associate Editor and Author, “The Price of Politics”

Topic: Guest will discuss his new book, “The Price of Politics”. Based on 18 months of reporting, the book “chronicles the inside story of how President Obama and the United States Congress tried, and failed, to restore the American economy and set it on a course to fiscal stability.”

Jessica Donze Black, Pew Health Group - Kids’s Safe & Healthful Foods Project Director

Topic: This year, public schools that serve lunch were required to meet new nutritional and dietary guidelines for the food they serve.  The changes are the result of the passage of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.  The new guidelines not only deal with calorie content, but also changes portion size and nutritional value.  Guest will discuss the changes, the cost of operating the program plus the impact of vending machines upon the healthfulness of food available at school.
