Topic: Guest will discuss the tax proposals in the Administration’s 2013 budget, his thoughts on the payroll tax extension deal that passed both houses on Friday, and who he supports/opposes in the 2012 election based on their fiscal stance.

Topic: The Obama Administration’s budget economic policies and proposals, including the White House’s 2012 budget released this week.   Guest will discuss how rank-and-file Democrats and Democratic activists nationally feel toward the President and his policies.  Our conversation will include the Center’s views on job growth, debt reduction, and taxation policies; how the priorities of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party are being addressed; how Democrats are gearing up for the 2012 elections; and the upcoming congressional agenda.

Leo Ribuffo, George Washington University, Presidential Historian

Topic: As President Obama gears up for his re-election campaign, his poll numbers are hovering around 50 percent with an unemployment rate of 8.3%.  We’ll take a historical look at the role polls and unemployment numbers play leading into a President’s re-election.   We will also discuss the possibility of a brokered convention within the Republican Party.
