Washington Journal for Sunday, May 13

Washington, DC

Christopher Calabrese, American Civil Liberties Union, Legislative Counsel for Privacy Issues

Topic:  Discussion on the practice of cell phone providers allowing law enforcement officials to gain location information gained by a phone’s GPS system.  Last week, Sen. Al Franken sent a letter to the Justice Department for information on its practices on requesting location information from wireless carriers.  This comes as a recent ACLU report found that many police departments use cell phone tracking information but that a small number consistently obtain a warrant and demonstrate probable cause to do so.
