This weekend Charlotte, NC is our featured city on Book TV and American History TV. Hosted by our Time-Warner cable partners, our Local Content Vehicles visited numerous locations to showcase the history and literary culture of the city that will host the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
American History TV program highlights include a tour of President James K. Polk's birthplace, a look at the Reed Gold Mine (where gold was first discovered in the U.S.), and the story of Charlotte civil rights leader Charles Jones, as he talks about his experiences during '60s lunch counter sit-ins.
On Book TV, author Karen Cox discusses her book "Dreaming of Dixie: How the South was Created in American Popular Culture"; David Goldfield, author of "America Aflame: How the Civil War Created a Nation"; and a tour of Park Roads Books - a longtime independent bookstore in Charlotte.
