Attorney General Holder Testifies on Justice Dept. Budget Request

Washington, DC
Thursday, March 8, 2012

The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies reviewed the FY2013 Department of Justice budget request. Attorney General Eric Holder testified.

The $27.1 billion request is nearly level with FY2012 enacted levels, decreasing from $27.2 billion by 0.4 percent.

The proposal includes $228 million in increases, including $55 million for investigating and prosecuting financial and mortgage fraud; $31.8 million for traditional missions, such as civil rights, cyber security, intellectual property, transnational organized crime, immigration services; and $141.2 million to secure prison facilities and improve federal prisoner reentry.

More than $1 billion in savings was found through administrative and programmatic cuts, as well as redirection of grant program funding.
