Bob Woodward & Marco Rubio Appear on Politico Playbook Breakfast

Washington, DC
Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Politico Wednesday hosted a breakfast discussion with the author of “The Price of Politics” Bob Woodward and Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) on current politics and policies.

Yesterday, author Bob Woodword revealed efforts by Roger Ailes, founder and Chairman of Fox News, to recruit Gen. David Petraeus as a candidate for president.  Today, Mr. Woodword spoke with Politico’s Chief White House correspondent Mike Allen about the Washington Post article.

Prior to becoming director of the CIA, Petraeus, who directed U.S. military forces in Afghanistan at the time, discussed a possible presidential run with Kathleen McFarland, a Fox News national security consultant, during a closed-door meeting. In line for CIA Director, Gen. Petraeus declined the offer.

Ailes admitted that he asked McFarland to pass his proposal to Gen. Petraeus, but added, "It was more of a joke . . ." He said McFarland was "way out of line" in pressing the General to consider a White House run.

Woodword based his article on a digital recording of the meeting obtained by the Washington Post.

Following his interview with Woodward, Mike Allen spoke with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).  Often mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick during campaign 2012, Sen. Rubio received the Kemp Leadership Award Tuesday from the Jack Kemp Foundation.
