President Obama announced that he was seeking Congressional approval for military action in Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack on Sept. 21 that reportedly killed 1,500, including women and children. The Senate cleared a key hurdle Wednesday by passing a resolution out of committee. Both chambers will pick up the debate Monday when they return from their August recess.
