Conference Examines Supreme Court Cases on Affordable Care Act

The Cato Institute hosts a conference on the Supreme Court hearings on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare."

Panelists analyzed the Act and the legal theories that will be put before the Court, as well as the implications of its possible rulings.

The first panel on "The Individual Mandate and Severability" included Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute, Randy Barnett of Georgetown University Law Center and Elizabeth Wydra of the Constitutional Accountability Center.

The second panel on "Medicaid and the States" included Jagadeesh Gokhale of the Cato Institute, Timothy Sandefur of Pacific Legal Foundation and Simon Lazarus of the National Senior Citizens Law Center. 

The Supreme Court begins hearing oral arguments on Monday and is expected to continue for six hours over three days.

The cases are brought against the Obama administration by 26 states, the National Federation of Independent Business and two individuals.
