Confirmation Hearing for Sen. John Kerry as Secretary of State

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a confirmation hearing to consider the nomination of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) to be Secretary of State. If approved, he would replace Sec. Hillary Clinton.

Topics being addressed today include U.S. foreign policy priorities in various regions, including the Middle East and the on-going conflict between Israel and Hamas forces in Gaza.

The Vietnam War veteran is currently chairman of the committee at which he is testifying today. He was also the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee.

President Obama nominated the long-time senator to be Secretary of State on December 21, 2012.

U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from being considered for Secretary of State, after Republican opposition over her statements on the Benghazi consulate attack.
