Congressional Progressives Introduce "The Balancing Act" Legislation

The Congressional Progressive Caucus held a press conference addressing debt and deficit reduction.  During the briefing, leaders of the caucus, Reps. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), unveiled legislation called “The Balancing Act."  

The bill acts to eliminate automatic spending cuts and provides proposals for long term deficit reduction.  Earlier on Tuesday, President Obama delivered remarks at the White House urging Congress to for smaller spending cuts and increased tax revenue to delay automatic spending cuts known as sequestration.  March 1st is when automatic spending cuts in both defense and non defense spending will take place.

On March 3, 1913 - the day before President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration - over 5000 women paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the White House in a demonstration for the right to vote. American Artifacts: Government Printing Office

Open for business in 1861 and located about six blocks from the capitol building, the United States Government Printing Office still prints the Congressional Record each day that the House and Senate are in session. We visited to learn the history of GPO and to see some of their historic printing jobs, including the "Official Records of the War of the Rebellion," which took twenty years to print, and the twenty-seven volume "Warren Commission Report on the Assassination of President Kennedy."

House Budget Cmte. Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and other GOP members on the budget committee release their proposal for a FY2014 budget. Rep. Ryan says his proposal will balance the budget in ten years and his calculations are based on repealing the Obama health care act.
