FBI Director Testifies at Senate Judiciary Oversight Hearing

Washington, DC
Wednesday, May 16, 2012

The Senate Judiciary Committee holds an oversight hearing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). FBI Director Robert Mueller testifies.

The hearing discussed the renewal of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which is set to expire at the end of the year, as well as the accuracy of hair and fiber forensics analysis used in FBI crime labs, which was recently called into question.

The Committee also discussed briefly the need for an FBI investigation into the JPMorgan Chase $2 billion trading loss.

At a House Judiciary Committee hearing last week, Mueller urged Congress to renew FISA to prevent plots such as a recent al-Qaeda plan to blow up a U.S.- bound flight.

He also talked about political correctness in training materials, cyber terrorism concerns and the negative impact of budget cuts and freezes.
