Former President Bill Clinton speaks at the House Democratic Conference's retreat, Friday. The President told the assembled Congressmen that gun legislation need not be "toxic" to Democrats.
"We should not give up our ability," he said, "to begin a conversation with people who are not as extreme as a lot of the candidates they voted for in the Republican Party that we could get to be for us. And I see this whole gun issue as an opportunity, not a toxic land mine. But it depends on how you do it."
The Democrats are meeting in Virginia this week to discuss their agenda for the coming year. President Obama spoke to the group on Thursday.
