Fmr. Pres. & Laura Bush Attend Portrait Unveiling at White House

Pres. Obama and Michelle Obama welcomed former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush and their family to the White House for the official unveiling of their portraits.

Dignitaries, Congressman, federal officials and friends attended the unveiling.  Pres. Bush and his wife then dined with Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama following the ceremony.

Bush Spokesman Freddy Ford said “The Bushes are looking forward to being back in Washington and seeing some of their friends. They appreciate the Obamas' hospitality in hosting the portrait hanging.”

 

President Bush last visited the the Obama White House in January 2010, when he and Bill Clinton joined Pres. Obama for a meeting on Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

The U.S. Senate Commission on Art unveiled a painting of Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol.  The portrait, painted by Tennessee artist Michael Shane Neal, is part of the U.S. Senate Leadership Portrait Collection.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Former President George W. Bush each made remarks at the event.

John F. Kennedy Online Presidential Archive Unveiling

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library launched an online archive containing thousands of documents, audio recordings and other materials. Participants said the collection was the largest online archive of Presidential records. This event coincided with the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s inauguration.
