The Brookings Institution hosted former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan for a discussion on his life and work in the international and human rights spheres.
Sec. Annan recently released his memoirs, titled Interventions: A Life in War and Peace. He served two terms as U.N. Secretary General beginning in 1997. After he stepped down in 2006, he was named U.N.-Arab League Envoy to Syria, a position he resigned from earlier this year after embattled Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad refused to implement Annan's peace plan.
