GOP Senators Hold Briefing on Benghazi Attack

Washington, DC
Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Three Republican members of the Senate Armed Services Committee hold a press briefing on the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other American citizens. They announced that they will be introducing a resolution in the Senate to form a temporary Select Committee to look into the timeline and what happened in the Benghazi attack.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) are following up on their repeated calls for a investigation into what the Obama administration knew about the attack on the U.S. consulate.

This week they published a letter critical of Defense Sec. Leon Panetta and what they allege were inadequate military preparations leading up to commemoration of the worst terror attack on U.S. soil.

The investigation into the Benghazi attack was complicated by the resignation of Gen. David Petraeus as CIA Director following revelations of an extra-marital affair. Gen. Petraeus was scheduled to appear at two Congressional Intelligence Committee hearings. Instead, Acting Director Michael Morell will appear in his place.

David Petraeus told the Sen. intelligence Committee that he will testify before the committee about the Benghazi incident and a secret trip he took to Libya following the attack.
