The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA) held a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, Wednesday.
NHLA Chairman Hector Sanchez and other hispanic leaders released their 2012 Hispanic Public Policy Agenda and challenge lawmakers and party leaders to make the issues a priority ahead of the Republican and Democratic national conventions.
Chairman Sanchez, said that the Latino vote is essential in the upcoming and future elections and stressed that both parties need to earn the Latino vote.
Mr. Sanchez then mentioned that NHLA will go to the RNC and DNC conventions. They also plan to meet with Republican and Democratic leaders on the hill, with the president and Mitt Romney. Sanchez stresses that the Latino community will hold Congress and the White House accountable to progress and lack of.
Additional participants include leaders from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Hispanic Federation, National Association of Hispanic Publications, National Conference of Puerto Rican Women, National Hispanic Council on Aging and Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
The NHLA was established in 1991 as a nonpartisan association of major Hispanic national organizations and distinguished Hispanic leaders from all over the nation.
