Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA) and the Subcommittee Chairmen from the House Armed Services Committee hold a morning news conference to talk about the sequester and defense spending cuts.
They announced that they would plan to pass a defense appropriations bill for the remainder of the year, and they urged the leadership meeting with President Obama to protect any additional defense spending from cuts.
Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has said that the mandatory defense spending cuts will result in furlough days for civilian employees of the department and delays in contracting and hiring.
The sequestration officially takes effect before midnight tonight.
