Legal Experts & Journalists Review the Supreme Court’s Major Decisions

The Heritage Foundation hosted its annual “Scholars & Scribes” forum to review the Supreme Court’s most significant decisions during its 2011-2012 term.

The panel began with how the Court’s decision in the Health Care case impacts the future of constitutional law, limited government, and substantive health care reform. Other featured cases discussed included the Arizona immigration law, GPS tracking, FCC indecency rules, and religious liberty.

U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli appeared in the first panel alongside New York University law Professor Richard Epstein and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Supreme Court attorney Michael Carvin.  The second panel featured reporters that cover the Supreme Court for leading news organizations and political blogs.

Attorney General Edwin Meese, who served under Ronald Reagan, moderated this first panel.  Heritage's Center for Legal & Judicial Studies Director Todd Gaziano led the second panel discussion.

Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Law

The Supreme Court announced, Thursday, that the entire Affordable Care Act is upheld. They did issue some limits on the Medicaid portion of the bill. Chief Justice John Roberts appears to be the crucial fifth vote. This is the final case of the 2011 term.
