Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) chaired a hearing of the Armed Services Committee on the defense authorization request for FY2014.
Specifically, Chair Levin heard an assessment of the request from Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, commander of the U.S. Central Command, and Adm. William H. McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.
Later today in the House, the Rules Committee will take up a continuing resolution that funds the Defense Department and the Department of Veteran Affairs for the next year. The act would give the Defense Dept. some flexibility in managing automatic spending cuts required under the sequester that went into law last week.
