Mitt Romney Campaigns in Missouri; Calls Job Losses "Moral Failure"

St. Louid, MO
Thursday, June 7, 2012

Mitt Romney called the number of Americans out of work and living in poverty a "moral failure of tragic proportions". He made these remarks at a campaign event Thursday in St. Louis.

"It is is not just a failure of policy; it is a moral failure of tragic proportions. Our government has an absolute moral commitment to help every American help themselves and today, that fundamental commitment has been broken," he told employees and supporters at the Production Products company, a Hispanic-owned business that specializes in protection gear for the military .

This was the second Hispanic-owned business Romney has visited this week as he targets key voters in the presidential race. He was in Forth Worth Texas Tuesday to speak to employees at Southwest Office Systems, a minority-owned business.

Later in the day, Romney attended a fundraiser in Clayton, Missouri.  The Romney for President, Romney Victory, and the Republican National Committee also announced their fundraising totals of over $76.8 million in May, more than the Obama campaign in the same time frame. The campaign and RNC have $107 million cash on hand.

In response, Obama for America campaign manager Jim Messina sent an email to supporters about their fundraising efforts. "Let's be clear here -- we could have 10 times as many people giving to us," he said. "But they've got a lot fewer people, each giving in many cases 10 times as much, and those big donors are lining up now that Romney is the presumptive nominee."

The Obama campaign also held a conference call with reporters led by General Counsel Robert Bauer to talk about Mitt Romney's plan to create a federal blind trust if he is elected President.
