Barbara Franklin served as a Staff Assistant to President Nixon from 1971 to 1973. During her time in the administration she led the effort to recruit women for high-level government jobs.
In this second oral history interview for the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, Barbara Franklin describes her time in the White House and her relationship with President Nixon as late as 1992, when she was Commerce Secretary under President George Herbert Walker Bush.
This interview – seen here for the first time on television – is conducted by Timothy Naftali, director of the Nixon Library.
