Panelists Discuss Economic Opportunities for Latinos

Washington, DC
Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is one of the featured speakers at a conference on Latinos and the "Ladder of Opportunity," hosted by the Center for American Progress. The event, which brings together administration officials and policy experts, focuses on efforts by President Obama to bring America's Latinos into the middle class.

Along with speeches by Sec. Solis and Cecilia Munoz, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, the event includes two panel discussions.

The first examines "Jobs, the Economy, and the Emerging Middle Class" and the second looks at "Education, Health Care, and Veterans Affairs."

Democrats are hoping President Obama will win a second term with the help of the Latino vote. He won two-thirds of the Latino vote in 2008 and expects to do even better in 2012.
