President Obama Pardons the Thanksgiving Turkey

Washington, DC
Wednesday, November 21, 2012

In a tradition that stretches back 65 years, President Obama ceremonially pardoned the Thanksgiving turkey in a ceremony at the White House, Wednesday.

According to the White House, "the 2012 National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate were raised on the farm of Craig and Nancy Miller in Rockingham County, Virginia."

After the pardoning, the two turkeys will be on display at Mount Vernon in Virginia during their holiday celebrations, and will later live out their lives in the park's livestock facility.
