Secretary-General Speaks on UN's Role in Post-Conflict Situations

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon spoke at the Center for Strategic and International Studies Monday in Washington.

His remarks focused on the role of the UN in post-conflict situations.

The Secretary-General is also in the U.S. to accept the Distinguished International Leadership award from the Atlantic Council Monday night in Washington. 

Ban Ki-moon is the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations. He took office on January 1, 2007 and was unanimously reelected on June 21, 2011.

U.N. Approves Sanctions Aimed at North Korea

The U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a fourth round of sanctions against North Korea aimed at slowing down its nuclear programs.  The resolution was drafted by the United States and China, North Korea's closest ally. The council's agreement to put the resolution to a vote just 48 hours later signaled that it would almost certainly have the support of all 15 council members.
