Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said an Egyptian politician with ties to a group on the designated terrorist organizations list was thoroughly vetted by the Obama Administration before he was allowed into the country for meetings with U.S. officials last month. The Secretary faced questions about the decision from Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee.
She said political developments across the Middle East have prompted the Administration in some cases to reconsider travel bans for people visiting from that region. Ms. Napolitano was joined at the hearing by Matthew Olsen, head of the National Counterterrorism Center.
