Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano testified earlier today on how her department is faring in enforcing security at U.S. borders. The federal government announced yesterday it deported a record 400,000 people in the past year.
Secretary Napolitano recently said that security along the border with Mexico is "at an apex." According to DHS, there are more than 20,000 Border Patrol agents, primarily on the southern border, as compared with around 12,000 in 2006.
Today's hearing focused on prosecutorial discretion, southern border violence, visas for farm workers, and invasive species.
