Senate Cmte. Discusses Protecting the Electric Grid from Cyber Attacks

Washington, DC
Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Regulators and energy industry officials told the Senate Energy Committee that the nation’s electric grid is vulnerable to cyber attacks, but they disagreed with one another on the best ways to improve the grid’s security. The committee held the hearing as they consider a variety of cybersecurity bills aimed specifically at energy security.

These may get rolled into a larger cybersecurity bill, which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said he hopes to consider before the Senate breaks for its August recess.
