The Senate Judiciary Committee last week passed a bill on gun trafficking largely along party lines. Today, the Committee continues its work on marking up additional gun legislation.
The committee is in recess subject to the call of the chair. It is not expected to return today, due to scheduling conflicts with individual Senators.
The Committee is expected to pickup debate on an assault weapons ban bill offered by California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D). That measure is not expected to get any support from Committee Republicans. Other measures scheduled for consideration include bills on background checks and school safety.
The specific bills the committee plans to cover include: S.150, Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (Sen. Feinstein); S.54, Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2013 (Sen. Leahy); S.374, Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (Sen. Schumer); and S.146, School Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 (Sen. Boxer).
