Medgar Evers did not leave an autobiography when he was assassinated in 1963. Using his speeches, his monthly reports to the NAACP, and his personal notes and letters, his widow – Myrlie Evers-Williams – and scholar Manning Marable created a narrative of the civil rights leader’s life.
