The American Public Transportation Association held their annual legislative conference in Washington, DC. The day-long event addressed the need for funding and policies that support U.S. public transportation and rail systems.
Panel discussions focused on such issues as: revenue generation for the Highway Trust Fund and Mass Transit Account; Federal surface transportation law implementation; and an outlook on passenger rail and rail safety legislation.
High ranking Transportation Department officials included Federal Transit Administration head Peter Rogoff, Federal Railroad Administration head Joseph Szabo, American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials Executive Director Frederick Wright along with other transportation organization officials. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood provided keynote remarks in the afternoon session of the conference.
