Vice President Biden and Attorney General Holder Award Medal of Valor

Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder spoke at a ceremony in the Old Executive Office Building during which they presented the Medal of Valor to public safety officers.

The Medal of Valor is awarded to public safety officers who exhibit exceptional courage, regardless of their own personal safety, in the attempt to save or protect others from harm.

President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to former Army Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha. He was honored for his actions during an October 3, 2009 battle with the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan, during which eight American soldiers were killed and two dozen others were wounded. Sergeant Romesha is the fourth living recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
