    General A.J. Smith's Guerrillas and the Battle of Nashville

    Professor Steven Woodworth talked about Union General A.J. Smith’s guerrillas, a contingent of the Army of the Tennessee, and their involvement in the Battle of Nashville in December of 1864. The Battle of Nashville was one of the largest Union victories during the U.S. Civil War and signaled the end of major conflict in the Western Theater of the the war.

    This talk was part of a symposium “1864: The Western Theater,” hosted by the Civil War Center at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.

    Mr. Ramage and Mr. Elliot spoke about the military careers of John Singleton Mosby and Alexander P. Stewart. They focused on the legend and myths surrounding these two Confederate Civil War generals. Mr. Ramage is the author of Gray Ghost: The Life of Colonel John Singleton Mosby. Mr. Elliot is the author of Solider of Tennessee: General Alexander P. Stewart and the Civil War in the West. After their prepared remarks they answered questions from the audience.
