    Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

    Former and current officials, New Orleans residents, faith leaders, and advocates spoke at an event commemorating the tenth anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina and the region’s recovery following the storm. Soledad O’Brien was the master of ceremonies. The event included the national anthem, other musical performances, videos, and prayers.

    “Katrina 10 Commemoration: The Power of Community” was a commemoration presented by The Rockefeller Foundation and The City of New Orleans in the Smoothie King Center.

    There were some transmission difficulties with this program.

    Open Phones on Tenth Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

    Telephone lines were open for calls on the 10th anniversary of the landing of Hurricane Katrina with lines reserved for residents of Louisiana, residents of Mississippi, and people displaced by the hurricane. Archival video from the C-SPAN video library was shown as well as Katrina-related events from the past week. Two New Orleans residents, Sue Sperry and Doreen Keeler-Tollerson, talked by telephone about their experiences, the difficulties still facing residents, the pace of recovery, and how New Orleans had changed.
