    Volkswagen Emissions Investigation

    Michael Horn, president and chief executive officer of Volkswagen Group of America, testified at a hearing investigating allegations of air quality standards cheating by the German automaker by purposefully deceiving emissions tests for some of its diesel-powered vehicles. Then Environmental Protection Agency officials Christopher Grundler and Phillip Brooks testified about the investigation.

    House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) spoke to reporters following his announcement he would withdraw his candidacy to be speaker of the House.

    Planned Parenthood Medical Procedures

    Witnesses testified at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Planned Parenthood medical procedures. Planned Parenthood had come under fire following the release of videos alleging it sold fetal tissue to researchers.

    The hearing opened with a tribute to former Representative William Donlon Edwards (D-CA) who died October 1, 2015, at the age of one hundred.
