    Same-Sex Marriage and Civil Rights

Attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson talked about same-sex marriage and civil rights. They compared the civil rights movement of the 1960's with the current gay rights movement and assessed various judicial rulings surrounding same-sex marriage laws. They also spoke about their efforts to overturn Proposition 8, which sought to ban gay marriage in California.

The panel, “Gay Marriage: A Civil Right?,” took place on the first day of a three-day a Civil Rights Summit hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of President Johnson’s signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964.
