    1915 San Francisco World's Fair

    Laura Ackley talks about the 1915 World’s Fair, officially known as the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, held in San Francisco, California. The fair was a celebration of the Panama Canal’s 1914 completion, and was also seen as a way for San Francisco to showcase its recovery from the 1906 earthquake. Ms. Ackley is the author of San Francisco’s Jewel City: The Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915.

    National Security Strategy

    Former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger, Madeleine Albright, and George Shultz testified at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on global threats and national security strategy. Topics included Iran’s nuclear program, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and combating the so-called Islamic State. 

    At the start of the hearing, protestors spoke out against Henry Kissinger calling him a “war criminal.” Committee Chair John McCain (R-AZ) responded to the accusations by ordering for the Capitol Police and calling the protestors “low-life scum.”
