    Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

    Vice President Biden made remarks before President Obama signed H.R. 803, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. The bill reauthorizes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, which provides supports to adult education and job training.

    Connecticut Senate Debate

    Senator Joe Lieberman, running as an independent candidate, Democratic candidate Ned Lamont, and Republican Alan Schlesinger, participated in a televised debate in their campaign for U.S. Senate. The debate was the first meeting of all the candidates and the first debate since the Democratic primary. Among the topics they addressed were national security and the Bush administration’s policies toward Iraq, the economy, Social Security, and campaign tactics. 

    The debate was moderated by Tom Appleby, news director and anchor, News 12 Connecticut. Included on the panel are Joy Haenlein, editorial page editor, The Advocate/Greenwich Time; Tom Monahan, chief political correspondent, NBC 30 News; and Steve Kotchko, news director, Connecticut Radio Network.

    The debate held at the Stamford Marriott was sponsored by the Business Council of Fairfield County with The Advocate and Greenwich Time, the Fairfield County Bar Association, the local Leagues of Women Voters, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and News 12 Connecticut.
