    President Obama on Secretary Duncan's Resignation

    President Obama announced the resignation of Education Secretary Arne Duncan, effective at the end of the year. President Obama said he would be replaced on an acting basis by his deputy, John King. He also responded to questions from reporters on a variety of topics, including the need for gun control in the wake of the the September 30, 2015, shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Other topics included Congress, the federal 2016 budget, Syria, Russia, the debt ceiling, the 2016 presidential race, and the recent visit by Pope Francis.

    Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton in Davie, Florida

    Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, spoke at a grassroots organizing meeting at Broward College in Davie, Florida. She talked about issues including the economy and climate change. She also hspoke about the September 30, 2015, shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, and the need for gun control.

    Syrian Foreign Minister U.N. General Assembly Address

    Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Walid Muallem delivered an address to the United Nations General Assembly. He announced that his government would participate in the U.N.-led working group toward a third round of Geneva talks. He stressed that fighting terrorism could not succeed only from air strikes and applauded Russia for working in coordination with the Syrian government.
