    September 11 Remembrance Ceremony in New York City

    Victims of the World Trade Center terror attacks on September 11, 2001, were remembered in a ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial Plaza in New York City. Family members participated in the ceremonial reading of the victims' names, and six moments of silence were observed, marking the exact times when the planes hit the towers and the Pentagon, when each tower fell, and the crash of Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials in attendance included New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R), former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

    September 11 Books for Children

    Mr. Pyatt and Ms. Cackley talked about books that can help children and parents come to terms with the legacy of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Some of the books discussed on this program include Maira Kalman’s Fireboat: The Heroic Adventures of the John J. Harvey, published by Putnam Publishing Group; Mary Pope Osborne’s New York’s Bravest, published by Knopf; Robin Goodman and Andrea Henderson Fahnestock’s The Day Our World Changed: Children’s Art of 9/11, published by Harry N. Abrams; and Mitch Frank’s Understanding September 11: Answering Questions about the Attacks on America, published by Viking Children’s Books.
