The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on the alleged abuses of taxpayer funds for political gain by the White House Office of Political Affairs. David Simas, director of the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, was subpoenaed to appear to discuss alleged violations of the Hatch Act. Mr. Simas chose not to appear. The White House contended that Mr. Simas was immune from congressional compulsion to testify on matters relating to his official duties. James Clapper on National Security
James Clapper talked about the intelligence and national security. The director of national intelligence said the intelligence community was facing a “perfect storm” endangering U.S. national security. He said problems included budget cuts by Congress, and a loss of intelligence sources due to the Edward Snowden leaks, which led to damaged relationships internationally.312 views
