Alexander Butterfield served as a Deputy Assistant to President Nixon from 1969 to 1973. In that time he was responsible for providing President Nixon with briefing papers, taking care of his personal correspondence, maintaining historical records and overseeing the installation of the White House taping system.

In this interview for the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, Alexander Butterfield recalls his time in the Nixon White House. It was Butterfield, a deputy assistant to the president, who revealed the secret White House taping system before a Senate Watergate committee in 1973.
