Because Iraqi forces are effectively taking on security for their country, some 4,000 American forces may withdraw by the end of October, Gen. Ray Odierno, the top U.S. Commander in Iraq, told the House Armed Services Cmte. The general gave the Cmte. an assessment of the security transition from American troops to Iraqi forces.
