The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing to consider the nomination of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) to be secretary of state. In her opening statement, Sen. Clinton vowed to renew U.S. leadership through a "smart power" combination of diplomacy and defense.
