C-SPAN At 18
"Debunking the Myths"
January 6, 1997

Eighteen years have passed since the cable industry, with Brian Lamb as catalyst, launched C-SPAN. The Network began by televising the floor debates for the U.S. House of Representatives - LIVE and in their entirety. Today, C-SPAN is the U.S. House and much more. We're two channels, C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 - both offering a wide variety of programming twenty-four hours a day.

So now, what role does C-SPAN play in the cable industry, in the political media, and in the business of televised access to Congress? What is The C-SPAN Revolution that authors Stephen Frantzich and John Sullivan are talking about? Where is C-SPAN headed? Over the years, a number of myths have grown up about C-SPAN. Brian Lamb, now C-SPAN's Chairman & CEO, sets the record straight on these myths in a speech at The National Press Club, January 6, 1997. We have included more details and the documents Brian Lamb talks about in his speech.
